The elegant Arceau watch from Hermès gets a more complex rendition for 2011 with the Arceau Grande Lune “triple calendar” watch. For many decades, the triple calendar layout – as it is often called – has represented one of the best and most elegant ways of displaying an annual calendar with moon phase indicator complication. The layout has two discs under windows beneath 12 o’clock to tell the day of the week and month. There is then a subdial over 6 o’clock that serves to tell the date and has a window for the moon phase indicator. The rest of the face is available for a clean watch dial. In this instance, the complications are present thanks to a Swiss Dubois Depraz 9313 automatic movement that has been decorated for Hermes. The Arceau dial has stylized “swooping” Arabic numerals, with some engraved decoration in the middle of the face. As a fashion icon it works well with the Hermes label, and offers a good choice for a classic watch that won’t easily bore. The Arceau Grande Lune comes on Havanaa brown alligator strap.
