Welcome to Chatel, where exceptional watch craftsmanship meets passion for horology. Our founder Hugues began his journey in watchmaking at a renowned institute in Besancon, France. His remarkable skills and dedication to the art form were quickly recognized, earning him a prestigious award in the Concoure des Metiers d'Art, a national competition in France, for his student project - a skillfully crafted skeletonized pocket watch with reversed time indication. His education continued at l'école d'horlogerie and microtechnique in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, where he graduated with a diploma of horologist. Hugues then honed his expertise by completing an apprenticeship at the Musée International d'horlogerie, specializing in restoring antique watches and clocks. One of his most significant achievements was rebuilding a complete Marine Chronometer with detent escapement and other precision Marine regulator instruments. In 1984, Hugues embarked on a new journey and brought his talent to the United States, landing his first job in Marin County, California, where he worked in a timepiece restoration workshop. Not long after, he settled in Carmel, California, opening a watch retail business with an exclusive collection of watch brands. In 1998, Chatel became the premier Panerai dealer and service center for America. Located in the picturesque village of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Chatel is a destination every watch enthusiast needs to experience. Come and see for yourself the dedication, passion, and skill that make Chatel unique.
